The Celebrating Konkans:
We form an ethnic group mainly found in the Konkan coast of western India who speak the Konkani language. The word Konkani is derived from 'kum', meaning 'Mother Earth' and kana, meaning 'piece/part' thereby meaning a strip of land along the western Indian coast beyond the Western Ghats. We can be found in the Konkan, Goa, Canara and to a lesser extent in Kerala. We are known as Indo-Aryans who first settled on the banks of the Saraswati River and later migrated to Kashmir and Rajasthan. Some settled in the Konkan, particularly in and around Goa. Today, most of us are well educated and generally well-off.
